The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert

To celebrate its 25th year, Nintendo will hold a concert featuring Legend of Zelda's best tunes this October 21 at the Los Angeles' Pantages Theatre. The performance features renditions of Zelda classic songs chosen by Koji Kondo. Next year there will be a full tour of this show.

The video below is from Nintendo's E3 performance and is much like the upcoming concert. It includes a 70-oiece orchestra. Tickets range from $35 to $150.

Urban Champion Revived for the 3DS

The 1984 classic fighting game by Nintendo gets another lease in life as it was remade for the Nintendo 3DS recently. The game received a 3D facelift while retaining its core gameplay. The controls of the game is still clumsy but still, its good to see this classic again.

Also, if you've been following Nintendo remakes closely, Excitebike and Xevious also recently appeared on the Japanese eShop.

Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Free from DSiWare

Our wallets will get a much-needed break on September. Nintendo recently announced that Legend of Zelda: Four Swords will be released for free via DSiWare. It'll be playable on the Nintendo DSi/XL and 3DS.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords was included in a couple of Zelda games but the one in question is the GBA version. There's no clear info yet if the game will be a total port or if any revisions would be made.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney The Movie all set to hit Japan 2012

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, a courtroom/adventure/comedy game on the DS, is set to hit the movie houses of Japan in 2012, Capcom recently announced formally.

Phoenix Wright will be played by Hikori Narimiya and his sidekick Maya Fey will be played by Mirei Kiritani. Miles Edgeworth on the other hand will be played by Takumi Saito. The movie will be directed by Takashi Miike, the man behind the horror film Audition and Thirteen Assassins.

If movie adaptations is not your cup of tea, how about Phoenix Wright the Musical? Yup, it exist ;)

Limited-edition Pokémon Black and White DSi Bundles

As announced last year, Nintendo has now launched limited-edition DSi bundles featuring Pokemon Blkack and White (as if we don't have enough reasons to buy the game!). It comes in Black and White editions and was released March 6 this year.

The limited-edition Pokémon Black and White DSi bundles includes a DSi etched with the image of Legendary Pokemon Reshiram and Zekrom, a copy of the Pokemon game, and a special DSi case to boot. At $179.99 a pop it sure is a good deal for Pokemon and Nintendo lovers alike.

It's so good The Presidents of the United States can't help but write a funky tune about it. Sure they may have been commissioned to do so, since they are performing it at the Pokemon Black & White release party after all, but still it's The Presidents and it is awesome.

With the release of the new Nintendo 3DS fast approaching, there nothing much happening right now for the DSi :( Fortunately there's still DSiWare to save our boring days!

Petz Catz Family (800 DSi Points) - It's up to you to take care of, feed, and train a whole family of cats.
Surfacer+ (500 DSi Points) - PLace flowers on the screen using your stylus and try to fill the whole screen. Watch out for enemies though.

Nintendo 3DS will have 3-5 hour battery life

On a somewhat unrelated and sad news, Nintendo recently revealed at Nintendo World 2011 that the 3DS, the successor of DS and DSi, will run for only 3-5 hours when playing 3DS software. It will however run for 5-8 hours when running DS games. That's a short time to play all those beautiful 3DS games if you ask us :(

Cave Story coming to DSiWare on Nov. 29?

The Nintendo blogosphere has been buzzing lately about the upcoming DSiWare title, Cave Story. Now rumor has it that the game will be released this coming November 29, 2010, just in time for the holidays.

Cave Story is originally a freeware game for the PC released in 2004. With its charming plot and characters, this 2D platformer quickly gained a mass following. Also worth noting is that Cave Story was designed and programmed by just one person: Daisuke Amaya aka Pixel. Recently Cave Story was released on WiiWare, with more artwork and game modes, earning it a nomination for 2010 Nintendo Power Awards Game of the Year.

Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp for the DSi

Although Dragon's Lair has been ported so many times we're going to welcome this one with open arms. According to an ESRB rating, Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp will be headed to the Nintendo DSi pretty soon.

Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp (1991) continues the adventure of Dirk. This time around, his wife and mother of his children Daphne has been kidnapped. It is up to Dirk to save her from the clutches of evil wizard Mordock.

Pikachu is willing to use his powers for good by helping you charge your Nintendo DSi this coming December. Amazon will make this adorable Pokemon accessory available December 23, just in time for the holidays. Although this Pikachu charge stand has been available in Japan since September, we're sure North American Pokemon fans will get a kick out of it too.

The Pikachu charge stand will work for the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL and will sell for about $40.

Snapdots for the Nintendo DSi is a puzzle game, much similar to Picross, where you rotate puzzles and shoot blocks from your UFO. You can retrive blocks to recalibrate your aim and shoot them again. There are several types of blocks though with different characteristics so make sure you use them wisely. Snapdots are worth 500 DSi points.

Here are some more notable recent DSiWare games:

Armada (500 DSi Points): Take charge of an aircraft carrier and help deploy and launch military planes.
Academy: Tic-Tac-Toe (200 DSi Points): Be a master in tic-tac-toe by joining the Tic-Tac-Toe League. Yup, there's a league for that.

Pokemon Black and White Limited Edition DSis coming soon

Pokemon fans will soon have another reason to rejoice as limited edition DSis of Pokemon Black and White will soon hot the shelves of Japanese stores. Scheduled to be released on November 20, the limited edition package will come with a Nintendo DSi and its matching Pokemon title.

The limited edition DSi will come in an awesome box and the DSi itself will feature Legendaries Reshiram and Zekrom, and either "POKEMON BLACK" or "POKEMON WHITE" inscription at the bottom of the front cover. It'll be avialble for 19,800 yen.

Super Mario 25th Anniversary DSi XL and DSi looks good enough to eat

As part of the 25th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros., Nintendo recently announced that several limited edition DSi and DSi LL's will be available soon. These DSi's will feature unique Super Mario designs and will come in eye-popping red. The DSi LL will be available in Japan on Oct. 28 for around 18,000 yen ($215) while the DSi pictured above will set you back 14,800 yen ($177).

DSi firmware upgrade blocks flash carts

Nintendo's recent 1.4.1U firmware update for the DSi got flash cart owners up-in-arms. The update does not actually do anything fancy in terms of functionality, it just blocks the use of several known flash carts used by DSi gamers to play homebrew or, god forbid, pirated DSi games.

Some of the known DSi flash cart affected are Acekard 2i, Supercard DSTwo, M3i Zero, iPlayer and DSTTi. A couple got spared such as EZ-Flash Vi, iSmart DS and Hyper R4i.

Too bad for homebrew enthusiasts. Some people just don't get that flash carts are not all for pirating and piracy :(

Final Fantasy Legend 3 to arrive on the DS

Following the success of the remake of SaGa2 (aka Final Fantasy Legend 2 in the US), Square Enix announced its plans to bring SaGa 3: The Ruler of Space and Time (Final Fantasy Legend 3) to the Nintendo DS. Scans above from Famitsu shows preview of the game.

Final Fantasy Legend 3 characters gets a cute makeover similar to Legend 2. Also, FF Legend 3 will retain its class system where you equip parts from enemies or eat them to change classes. Expect to hear more about Final Fantasy 3 for the DS in weeks to come.

Solatorobo will use DSi Camera

According to Japanese retailer Game Star, the newest game from Cyberconnect2 Solatorobo: And Then To Coda will make use of the Nintendo DSi's camera. It doesn;t really say how the camera will be put in to play, but expect to take pictures and use it in the game. It is good to note though that Solatorobo does not require a DSi.

Formerly know as Solarobo, Solatorobo: And Then To Coda is an action RPG game featuring cats and dogs controliing robots. It is also somewhat a sequel to Tail Concerto. The game has a multiplayer mode via Download Play of upto four players.

New Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective trailer looks creepy

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is one of the most anticpated games for the Nintendo DS this year. It was actually nominated for Best DS Game during E3 2010. It's an adventure game along the lines of Ace Attorney. Come to think of it, the development of Ghost Trick was lead by Shu Takumi, the creator of Ace Attorney!

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective revolves around Sissel, a dead man looking for who and why he was killed. As a spirit, Sissel eventually learns that he can do stuff that would help solve his death such as possesing inamnimate objects and traveling back in time.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future Trailer & Release Date

Looks like puzzle and adventure fans are set for an early treat as the release of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future for the Nintendo DS is moved back a week earlier. The new Professor Layton will come to North America this coming September 12th instead of the 20th.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future is the third in the series and as you might have guessed, includes time travel. It begins as Professor Layton receives a letter from his apprentice Luke, dated ten years into the future. As with all Professor Layton games, expect to spend some considerable amount of time figuring out puzzles.

Play as teh Enemy in Turvys Strike Back

Similar to Turvy Drops, Turvys Strike Back is a game for the DSi meant to be played with the DS upside down. The touch screen is supposed to be on top while the regular screen is at the bottom. Why, you ask?

That's because in Turvys Strike Back, you play as the enemy. Use the stylus to launch enemies at the lone hero trying to do his good deeds to your expense. Still confused? Then just watch the video below.

DSi Price Cuts & New DSi XL Colors

We know that the Nintendo 3DS is just around the corner and you might be asking yourself why bother purchasing a DSi. Well this is one reason. Nintendo recently announced price drops for the DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL in Japan. Nintendo UK is to follow suite on June 18 but only for the DSi. No word yet from Nintendo America if they are willing to give American DS owners the same break.

Also, new colors for the DSi XL will be released in Japan on June 19. Expect blue, yellow, and green DSi XLs to litter the streets of Tokyo soon.

DSiWare Game Makes Novel Use of Camera

DSi Used to Train McDonald's Japan Employees

V-Screen for the DSi XL Adds "Depth"

If you find your DSi XL not awesome enough, then try your hands on RealView Innovations' V-Screen. The peripheral attaches to your DSi and is supposed to make the screen look 3D. We're not sure if the V-Screen really works but a simple search online yields not so favorable results. One thing is for sure though, it will certainly add weight to the DSi XL.

DSi XL: Broken and Dissected

The folks over at iFixIt did another awesome post, this time around opening up the Nintendo DSi XL. All its bit and pieces were removed and cataloged, with accompanying notes. Also, there's instructions on how to do it yourself, that is, if you want to risk your DSi XL.

All in all, the DSi XL's interior looks pretty similar to a regular DSi, except of course for the larger screens.

Earthworm Jim Soon on DSiWare

If you've been a gamer for, oh say 20 years, then Earthworm Jim is probably no stranger to you. It is truly one of the most enjoyable game yours truly has ever played.

Earthworm Jim is not your regular platformer. In it you play as an earthworm named Jim (thus the name Earthworm Jim!) who happened upon an alien suit giving him awesome powers. His mission: to save the princess! In the screenshot below you can see that the action is on the top screen while the bottom screen is reserved for stats and to pause the game..

This version of Earthworm Jim for the DSiWare is said to be exactly like the original, so us kiddies are in for a lot of fun!

DSi XL North American Release

We all know it's coming but there's nothing like hearing the officials call it! The Nintedo DSi XL will be released in North America on March 28 (mark it on your calendars!) for around $190. That's just about $20 more than your average-sized DSi.

The colors available at launch will be Burgundy and Bronze but, knowing Nintendo, we're all sure there will be more choices soon. The DSi XL will come with DSiWare Brain Age, the DSi Browser, Photo Clock, and Flipnote Studio.

Apple iPad vs. DSi XL

If you haven't heard yet, the Apple iPad was released to the public this past week. The reception among techies and geeks were divided; some calling it the next best thing after the uhmm.. iPhone while some compare it to a slab of rock. But one thing that I'm interested to know is what games can I play on it and will it be better than my Nintendo DSi XL?

It has a touchscreen, yes, and its screen is way bigger than the DSi XL. I reckon it has a better resolution too. But what games will be available on it? I for one can't wait to find out!

Naruto Photo App for the DSi

Finally a decent photo app for the DSi! Takara Tomy released a Naruto app for the DSi that will let you replace your favorite characters' face with yours. Want to strike a pose with Sasuke? Of course you do! Want a sharingan? You can have two! The app costs 500 DSi points and you need a Japan region Nintendo DSi to get it.

Motion Control Coming to the DSi

The Nintendo DSi has another awesome new feature to boast... motion control! Although not the first of its kind, the ability to control the game's movements via moving the DSi itself is a great new addition to an already ground-breaking handheld system.

As shown by the video above, gaming studio Engine Software demos a game called Tilt where you guide a ball by, well, tilting the DSi. They said they are working on a DSiWare game that would fully showcase the DSi's motion control feature.

Oh Noes! DSi LL/XL Dissected

In case you haven't heard yet, Nintendo did it again and created another monster hit with the DSi LL (or DSi XL if you're from the West). Enterbrain reports that the new DSi sold 103,524 units in its first two days. For comparison's sake, the PSP Go's sold 28,000 on its launch day in Japan.

Nyko Zoom Case for the DSi

One of the main features of the Nintendo DSi when it was released was the addition of two cameras. Although it wasn't its strongest point, its a great addition that (we hope) will prove useful for future apps and games. And it looks like Nyko is foreseeing that future too. Just recently they introduced the Zoom Case.

In a nutshell its a DSi case with a camera lens. An 8x zoom camera lens. I kid you not. If you're one of those whiners about how crappy the DSi camera is, then I would kindly point you to this product. The lens is detachable, of course, and the case is not kidding around either. What's more, it does not require batteries.

Nintendo Announces DSi LL / DSi XL

Just a couple of days after rumors of a new and bigger DSi hit the web, Nintendo finally confirmed and announced the successor of the barely year-old Nintendo DSi. Dubbed as Nintendo DSi LL in Japan and Nintendo DSi XL in Europe and America, it will sport much bigger screens and more battery life among others.

The DSi LL / XL will be released in Japan on Nov 21 and will be expected on America and Europe in Q1 2010. Basically its features are the same as the current DSi but will feature a much larger body and screen as mentioned earlier.

Where the DSi's screens are 3.25 inches across, the new DSi LL / XL are 4.2 inches. There are no announcements as of yet whether the screen resolution will be improved.

Three DSi LL / XL colors will be available upon launch: Wine Red, Natural White, and Dark Brown. Based on Nintendo's track record, expect a lot more color variations to be available in the near future.

The battery life of the DSi LL / XL is supposed to be improved as well. Compared to Nintendo DSi's 9-14 hours on the lowest bright setting, the LL / XL can last upto 13-17 hours. The power adapter of the old DSi will fit the LL / XL.

As for the games, the Nintendo DSi LL/ XL can play old DS cartridges and DSi exclusive games. Also one can download and play DSiWare as well. Sadly, GBA cartridges are still shunned by this new DSi.

Monster Finder to Hit US Shores

We reported sometime ago about the first DSi-exclusive game, Monster Finder (not to be confused with Monster Hunter, Pocket Monster, Monster Rancher, and the likes). Thanks to the valiant efforts of Konami, the US will now see the lights of day for this awesome game. The game is set for a US release of January 2010.

As we've painstakingly researched before, in Monster Finder players use the DSi's cameras to find monsters in the real world. With over 100 different kinds of monsters to collect there's no shortage of gameplay for sure.

Elite Beat Agents + Phoneix Wright = AWESOME

DSiWare Purchases Locked to Your DSi

Looking to replace your old Nintendo DSi with a new one? Change of color preference perhaps? Then know that according to Nintendo of Australia, DSiWare purchases are permanently locked to the DSi system they are originally downloaded to.

With the exception of a broken DSi, you can't transfer software bought from the DSi Shop. And if you do have a busted DSi, you have to mail it along with the new one to Nintendo to get your DSiWare goodies transferred.

Many are outraged by this revelation. Note that this came from Nintendo of Australia but I would not be surprised if America and Europe has the same policy. Let's all hope not...

Monster Finder: First DSi-Exclusive Game

We here at this humble blog are quite pleased when it was recently announced that there will soon be DSi-only retail games. Not that we hate our DS Lite totting brothers, we just like the idea of games making full use of the DSi's features. Among the first of such games is Monster Finder.

From what we have gathered, in Monster Finder one must use the DSi camera to find monsters, thus the name Monster Finder. With over 100 different varieties of monsters to hunt the game is compared to Monster Rancher (or maybe Pokemon?). Monster Finder is set to release in Japan sometime in winter.

DSi Madness: A Sales Update

As soon as we've heard of the numbers after its initial release in Japan, there was no doubt in our minds that the Nintendo DSi would make it big. It seems every one and their dog has a DSi or two. Less than a year old, the DSi proved to be another hit from our good friends in Nintendo. Here's a quick summary of DSi sales so far:

435,000 - total sold during first week in US.
92,000 - 1st weekend on sale in UK.
3,000,000 - total DSi units sold in Japan.

The DSi proved to be a competent successor to the DS Lite. Here's to more success and more fun games!

Limited SaGa 20th Anniversary Edition Dsi Looks Extra Awesome

The design of the upcoming limited edition SaGa DSi has recently been released and we at dsigames all agree that it's full of awesome. As mentioned before on this blog, the release of SaGa 2 remake for the DS will be accompanied with its own limited edition DSi.

The SaGa 20th Anniversary Edition DSi comes in matte black and features the game's logo. There's also a seal detailing very game in the series. If you want to own this limited-ed dsi, it'll cost you $262.

Korg DS-10 Plus to be Released on September

Hey, remember Korg DS-10? It was a hit DS app where you get to play with a Korg synthesizer. It's quite fun even if you can't really figure out how to use it professionally. Well, AQ Interactive decided to follow-up on its success with Korg DS-10 Plus for the DSi.

Korg DS-10 Plus will work similar to its predecessor, but with the addition of certain features such as real-time editing. It also makes good use of the DSi's extra hardware, adding two more analog synthesizers (that makes it four!) and four more drum synthesizers (making it eight!). Also, there are now twelve tracks you can lay music on.

Korg DS-10 Plus will be released in Japan on September 17.

SaGa 2 Remake To Come with Limited Edition DSi

Like with (almost) all previous Final Fantasy recent releases, SaGa 2 (or Final Fantasy Legend II to some) will be released alongside its own limited edition DSi. The DS RPG game is set to be released in Japan on September 17.

The SaGa 20th Anniversary Limited Edition DSi has no official design yet, but it would do us fans a favor if they keep that yellow one-eyed thingy off it. The system will be available for roughly $260 on release date.

Share Your DSi Photos on Facebook

Nintendo recently announced another feature that will leave camera-happy DSi owners a reason to celebrate. In the near future, this coming fall to be more exact, pictures taken using the DSi's built-in camera can be sent to a user's Facebook page. I'm assuming that this could be done via WiFi connection and a simple software to access a Facebook account.

Thankfully, no word yet if you can answer Facebook quizzes using your DSi.

New Red Nintendo DSi

A new red DSi (I call it awesome-red) will be available in Japan on July 11 2009.

Along with this fiery news Japanese Wii lovers will also be treated to a new blac Wii, available on August 1 2009. Accessories in black will of course be released as well.

Now the big question: Will we see these awesomely colored DSi and Wii in North America? No word yet :(

If you're not satisfied yet with the barrage of Dragon Quest games (both available and upcoming) for the DS and DSi, then meet Dragon Quest Wars. This strategy game is brought to us by none other than Square Enix features online play and is available for DSiWare download for only 500 points.

Dragon Quest Wars looks and plays like a board game featuring Dragon Quest characters. Up to four players can battle it out, forming their own team of four Dragon Quest monsters. There's nothing to worry in terms of gameplay, since the game is being developed by Intelligent Systems, the guys who made the Advance Wars and Fire Emblem series. It will be out in Japan this month.

Ghostwire: Ghost Hunting via DSi

Ghostwire is an adventure title for the Nintendo DSi where the players hunt for wayward spirits and figure out why they still linger in the realm of the living. Pretty basic horror game, you say? Not quite so. You see, Ghostwire makes full use of the DSi's features, especially the DSi camera.

Instead of your traditional cemetery, or haunted house, the game is set in YOUR surroundings. You pan the DSi around you to hunt for said ghosts, as seen from the screenshot above. Creepy? You bet. I'm still not sure I want to play this game inside my room!

In any case, Ghostwire is a game that I've been waiting for simply because I want to see more games that use the DSi's camera.

Animal Crossing Goodies on DSiWare!

DSiCade is not much at to look at for now, but I see potential in there. There are two games available as of this post, namely Touch Mii and War Games.

Touch Mii is a simon-says-like game where you just follow the pattern the AI has set.

War Games on the other hand is a Missile Command clone.

Also, there an extra awesome chat feature called SHOUTBOX! where you can converse with other DSi owners around the globe.

As mentioned earlier, DSiCade has a great future. Can't wait to see more games from them soon!

New DSiWare Goodies Hit Japan

Japanese DSi owners are treated to four new DSiWare apps and games ready for download recently. Out of the four, I want two badly. Guess which they are.

Chotto Magic Taizen: Date Uranai (200 Points): Need help with your date? Then this new Master of Illusion trick will help determine where your special someone wants to go on a date.

Itsudemo Puri-Kura Kira Deco Premium! (Anytime Print Club Sparkling Deco Premium) (500 Points): This cool application is used for editing and decorating images taken from your DSi camera. You can then trade photos with your friends or transfer it on your mobile phone.

Atsumeru Egao-chou (Smile Collection Book) (500 Points): A photo album dedicating to photos of friends smiling. Yup, they have to be smiling to be in this album. There's a bunch more activities you can do with it including a compatibility test.

Chotto Brain Training: Sudoku-hen (500 Points): On the more serious (and brain-aching side) this adds 200 new sudoku puzzles to Brain Training.

Moving Memo Pad was also updated to version 2. You can now rate videos, make comments using drawings, and upload to channels.

Skype to Come to DSi... Sort of

Is the beloved VoIP/Instant Messaging application Skype headed for the DSi? The possibility is quite high, based on this post from TechRadar.

The Skype representative questioned did not give a definite yes, but did not shut down the possibility either. In fact the rep also said it would be technically possible to develop a Skype app for the Nintendo DSi.

Sony's PSP has had Skype for some time now. It would be another nudge for the DSi if they can pull this off.

DSi Sold 435,000 First Week in US

The numbers are in, and it looks like Nintendo has done it again with the DSi. After a week from its launch, Nintendo claims that the DSi sold a staggering 435,000 units. That's almost twice the DS Lite's numbers, which sold 226,300 systems during its launch week.

The DSi almost made waves in recently, becoming the fourth-fastest selling console in UK history. March is also a good month for Nintendo, outselling Wii and DS rivals.

If you're a fan of the DS or DSi, these numbers shouldn't surprise. Who could resist the DSi's unruly charm??

Nintendo recently launched a site dedicated to Made in Ore, a kit for making your own mini-games WarioWare style! The site features screen shots and videos of Made in Ore in action.

As with the last WarioWare for the DS, Made in Ore features different WarioWare employees, and each has his/her own style. I personally like 9-Volt and his "Nintendo" themed mini-games.

Basically this neat little trick uses "Graffiti Mode" of Nintendo DSi. Make use of music note stamps, which changes pitch depending on where you place it, and you have yourself a party!

Mixed Messages (500 Nintendo DSi Points) - Much like LOL for the DS, Mixed Messages is a party game for people who can't get enough WiFi play. It supports up to 21 players and is subbed as a "telephone" for the DSi.. well, sort of. See, the game starts out by one player writing a sentence, then the next player will try to draw what the sentence describes. The next player will then view the drawing and write a sentence about it. You get the idea...
Master of Illusion Express: Shuffle Games (200 Nintendo DSi Points) - This is an installment of Nintendo's Master of Illusion Express series. As with previous games, this entry teaches you another trick - The Vanishing Card trick. Farout dude.

DSi US and UK Sales? 600k!

The DSi broke every sales record imaginable when it was released in Japan. Well, not really... But it did banged some numbers up! And it did so again when it was released in the US and UK, selling over 600k units!

Nintendo proudly announced that the DSi sold 300,000 units in the US and another 300,000 in the UK during its launch weekend. If Dr. Kawashima taught me correctly, that's a total of 600,000!

Hey all! We're back! And last we checked, the DSi was supposed to be released in the US around the end of April. Imagine our surprise when we caught wind of a certain rumor that the DSi will be out early April! April 4 to be exact.

According to IGN, "sources close to Nintendo" leaked the early release date of the DSi and even gave its price point, which is a surprisingly pleasant $179.99. For those keeping track, that's $70 less if you'll import a DSi!

Echoes of Time Limited Edition DSi

We've finally have an image of what is soon to be one of the first limited edition Nintendo DSi. Square Enix did a splendid paint-job on this particular special ed.

As reported on a previous post, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time's cat-with-a-bowtie mascot is on the front of the DSi. Unlike previous special editions from Square Enix, there's a nice touch of color to this one. I'm also liking the blue text wrapping around the DSi's external camera.

FFCC: Echoes of Time is set for a Jan 29 release. If you own a DSi, then better pre-order your copy at Play-Asia.

Moving Memo Pad Animation Gallery

The site is called Ugoku Memo Hatena. I call it The Most Awesome Moving Memo Pad Animation Gallery because that's what it is.

Moving Memo Pad will be available for free on the Japanese DSiWare Store. It's basically an organizer of sorts that comes with a cool feature that lets you create your own animations. You can then share your work on Ugoku Memo Hatena, or download other people's animations.

Turn Your DSi into a Talkbox

I don't know what the hell this dude is trying to tell me, but what he's doing is a step above awesome. With a straw, his wiggly mouth, and a copy of Korg DS-10, he turned a Nintendo DSi into a working talkbox. For those not in the know, a talkbox is what you use to make those robot sounds on techno songs.

Acekard Successfully Produces DSi Flash Cart

It's bound to happen, and Acekard has the claim of being the first to produce a DSi flash cart.

As the video below will show, the Acekard 2i works with a Japanese DSi. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia plays smoothly, and before that the menu looks good as well. It is also worth noting that Acekard 2i works with both DSi and DS Lite. But will this DSi flash cart work on new DSi games when they come out?

The Acekard 2i is now available on Acekard's website for homebrewers to enjoy. Remember kids, say no to pirating!

DSi, First Month Tally: 500,000 Sold!!

I guess the early surveys were wrong after all. After the first month of DSi mania in Japan, the numbers are in: 500,000 units sold! That's 50,000 units shy of the DS Lite's record. Although Enterbrain's numbers says the actual DSi sales is 535,379.

One thing's for sure, the DSi is on its way to another Nintendo success. This brings up the total DS sales to a staggering 24,239,590 units.

Echoes of Time Set to be First DSi Limited Edition

Just a few months after its release, the Nintendo DSi is about to receive its first limited-edition from none other than Square Enix.

In line with the upcoming release of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time, a limited-edition DSi will be available. The bundles comes with an Echoes of Time game and a white "Crystal Chronicles Edition" DSi. The game's logo and cat mascot will adorn the said DSi.

Gameloft Eyeballing DSiWare

Two days after its November 1 Japanese release, the Nintendo DSi sold 170,779 units according to Enterbrain. No wonder the DSi is now sold out. Nintendo initially shipped 200,00 DSi units for its release. They are now planning to to ship an additional 100,000 by the end of the week.

Speaking of sold out, I've just read from siliconera of a scalper selling 50 DSi's over at Yahoo Auctions. Starting price is 25,000 yen compared to the retail price of 18,900 yen. Getting a little greedy there, eh? A quick search on ebay will land you a better deal.

So, the big day has come and gone. Are you one of those fortunate ones with a DSi? Did you import? Ebay? I don't care how you got yours, I want to hear from you.

Unfortunately my current financial situation disallows my person to pre-order, import, or travel to Japan to get my hands on a DSi. I'll just have to wait, just like an average Joe. But the guys over at Kotaku did go to Japan, and got them a fresh DSi too!

In a nutshell, most stores are pre-orders only, and have exhausted their supplies. There are a few though with an old-school queue outside. They got a (or several) DSi unit, and from what I understand, their giving it away :)

DSi Poll Not Looking Good

Tomorrow's the big day! Finally the DSi will be released... in Japan that is. But believe it or not, not all DS fans are excited about the latest iteration of the DS.

According to a poll done by Dengeki, the Japanese are not going crazy over the DSi's release. Only 3.6% answered that they will purchase a DSi soon. 29.4% will wait before buying, maybe to see what games and software would be exclusive to the handheld. 40.7% said they will not buy a DSi.

The poll is pretty disheartening. We'll just have to wait until tomorrow to verify its accuracy.

$299.99 For a DSi Import

A couple of major importers are charging extra for pre-orders of the upcoming Nintendo DSi, deciding that $299.99 is rather a fair price to pay for the said handheld console.

On November 1, the DSi will be released to eager Japanese gamers, leaving the rest of the world Yoshi-green with envy. It will cost ¥18,900, or roughly $200. That is why many were shocked, including yours truly, to find out that trusted importers placed a whopping $299.99 price tag on the DSi.

So are you still gonna import a DSi, or will you wait? Also, it is good to mention that the DSi is region locked.

DSi Camera Potentials

With the new Nintendo DSi comes two camera; one external situated at the top half of the DSi and the internal near where the mic used to be. With this new feature comes a lot of potential. Let's just hope game and software developers utilize it well.

I myself am not looking to snap pictures up with the DSi's camera. With just .3 megapixels, there's not much to expect in terms of photography. But use the camera in-game, then we can talk! Nintendo has always been known to challenge traditional ways and means, so I'm pretty sure they can work something out.

DSi Coming with Opera Browser, Has More RAM

An interview with Opera CEO Jon von Tezchner by techtree revealed that the new Nintendo DSi will have more RAM than the DS Lite. In addition, Jon said that the integrated Opera of the DSi will use the RAM more efficiently.

More RAM for the DSi spells nothing but good things to come to the much awaited handheld. Although there are no other news as of yet of other software or games that will make use of this bigger RAM.

DSi - Region Locked!!

If you're one of those DS fans that can't wait to have their hands on the new Nintendo DSi and therefore planning to import one, then hold your horses cowboy - the DSi is region locked! Nintendo recently confirmed that DSi software will be region-locked, meaning European DSi software can only be played on European DSi's.

Guess I have to wait until next year. What about you? Are you gonna wing it and still import a DSi?

Goodbye GBA Slot... (sob)

The GBA Slot was removed from the Nintendo DS in its most recent version, the DSi. Why Nintendo opted for this move, I do not know. The GBA slot, aside from allowing us to play Game Boy Advanced games on our DS, has some other uses too.

I'll miss the DS Lite Vibration Cartridge, for one. As the name suggests, it makes the DS respond to in-game action by vibrating, much like in Playstation's Rumble feature. Playing Metroid Pinball will never be the same again...

The Paddle Controller is another "good-to-have" DS Lite accessory. Although I can't think of any game to use it with except for Arkanoid DS.

What worries me most is Guitar Hero: On Tour and the other rumored Guitar Hero games for the DS. This game requires the GBA Slot for it's unique controls. How are we going to play that in the DSi?Are you going to miss the GBA Slot?

Nintendo DSi Released

The Nintendo DSi, the much awaited third version of the Nintendo DS, was finally announced last October 2, 2008 in Tokyo, Japan at the Nintendo Conference. As with its predecessors, the DSi looks as stylish with a few improvements.

The DSi will be approximately 12% thinner than the DS Lite. It will also house two cameras, on external and another one beside the DS mic. It will also have slightly larger screens (3.25 inches), and much improved speakers. The Power button is also moved, now located at the bottom left of the touch screen. Also, an SD card slot is added for storage of software and media files. The DSi will also ship with its own built-in web browser.

One big change is that the GBA slot is removed. This means the DSi cannot play Game Boy Advance games, and cannot make use of previous DS accessories that uses this slot.

DSi owners can also download games and software on Nintendo's online store.

The Nintendo DSi will be available in Japan on the 1st of November, 2008. The fist editions will be in matte black and white, with no future colors announced as of yet.
